A Murder of Crows

This painting is 24 “X 24” on a gallery wrapped canvas. The sides are painted charcoal grey.

I live near a lovely wetlands area that I frequent  daily on walks with my Australian cattle dog. Though every season has it’s own distinct flavor in the wetlands I do favor the Fall, when the leaves are colored and falling and the stark white branches stand out against the charcoal sky. Often times I would marvel at the large flocks of crows that would gather at the edge of the forest. Crows seem a metaphor for change, transition or loss. They seem to carry with them a general sense of foreboding. In imagining the scene for this painting, I wanted to translate this sense of ominous mystery along with the quiet beauty and stillness of the place itself.
