Forest

The inspiration for this painting began when I noticed the complex patterns and structures present in a tiny moss covered branch that caught my attention one morning as I was walking through the wetlands. I couldn’t quite put my finger on what it was that I found so fascinating about it, though it seemed a random jumbling of tiny tendrils, there was something very beautiful and orderly in the internal structure of this small treasure. It reminded me of beauty I appreciate in abstract paintings, it seemed to followed a natural set of compositional rules. I noticed anomaly complemented by rhythmic repetition of forms. I decided to paint what I was observing, but rather then paint this specimen as tiny and fragile as it was, I decided to give my viewers a very up close and personal perspective I painted this tiny branch about 10 times larger than life.
